01

Stammering/ Stuttering

A stammer can involve a child repeating whole words or part of a word. It can also sound like the first sound in a word is stretched out and made longer. Other times children can “block,” and the word they want to say can get stuck and no sound comes out at all. Some children who stammer are unaffected by it. Others can be affected emotionally and/ or socially.

Eibhlin has completed much additional training in this area with the Michael Palin Centre in London.

02

Language Disorders

Children can be late to talk, not using as many words as expected, using shorter sentences, have difficulties with grammar, struggle to tell a story, or have difficulties understanding and following instructions, questions or stories. When these difficulties persist and impact significantly on a child they are considered a language disorder.

Eibhlin is trained in many interventions in this area, including many Hanen programmes and Shape Coding.

03

Pronunciation/ Speech Disorders

Pronunciation difficulties are referred to as speech difficulties. Children can have difficulties pronouncing one or many sounds. This can make it hard for them to be understood. Speech sound difficulties can relate to a physical cause such as a cleft palate or a hearing loss. Sometimes they can involve muscle weakness or difficulty sequencing movements. Very often they relate to how children have stored sound patterns in their brain (phonological disorders).

Eibhlin has completed numerous trainings in this area, including Bondar’s Treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Core Vocabulary Therapy.
